Edward M. Scheckowitz, M.D., F.A.C.S.

 

Edward M. Scheckowitz, M.D., F.A.C.S., serves as the Affiliate Assistant Professor of Clinical Biomedical Science, Department of Surgery, Charles E.Schmidt College of Medicine at FAU and past Chairman of the Department of Surgery at Delray Medical Center. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Urology and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

 

Dr. Scheckowitz earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, graduating cum laude with departmental honors in Economics. He went on to earn his Masters Degree in Physiology and subsequently his Medical Degree from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.

Dr. Scheckowitz has authored numerous journal articles, textbook chapters, and presented his work at the American Urological Association's annual meeting. 

After medical school, Dr. Scheckowitz completed two years of General Surgery Residency and four years of Urology Residency at University Hospitals of Cleveland, at Case Western Reserve University. U.S. News and World Report rank University Hospitals of Cleveland as one of the nation’s best hospitals for Urology. In September 2016 he participated in a bladder cancer panel at the annual Florida Urological Society meeting.

 

Dr. Scheckowitz has been in urology private practice in Florida since 1995. He currently is on the medical staff of Delray Medical Center, Boca Raton Regional Hospital, and Pinecrest Rehabilitation  Hospital.

 

After completing his second term as Chairman of the Department of Surgery (2012-2016) at Delray Medical Center, Dr. Scheckowitz remained on as a member of the Peer Review Committee. For the past 8 years, he organized and has been the moderator of the South Palm Beach County Journal Club for Urologists, which is a CME accredited activity.

 

An active member of the community, Dr. Scheckowitz is sought after as a speaker for hospital lecture series, and enjoys speaking to various clubs organizations. He has lectured on a variety of topics of interest in urology to physicians, nurse practitioners, and pharmacists, including treatment of the prostate, erectile dysfunction, the overactive bladder, and testosterone supplementation therapy. An advocate of staying abreast of advancements, he was among the first urologists in South Florida to incorporate technologies such as the Greenlight laser, and most recently bipolar vaporization of the prostate into his practice.

 

Dr. Scheckowitz specializes in the non-surgical and surgical treatment of all urologic disorders, including: Cancer Screening and Treatment for the Prostate, Bladder, Kidneys and Testicles, PSA Blood Testing, Enlarged Prostate, Impotence, Kidney Stones, Male Infertility, Urinary Problems and Voiding Disorders such as Incontinence, Frequent Urination, and Urinary Tract Infections, and Vasectomy.

 

Dr. Scheckowitz resides in Parkland, with his wife Elissa and their two children.
